Description
Lathyrus odoratus
Heirloom Sweet Peas
These are the original old sweet peas. They have an amazing scent with two toned rich purple and crimson flowers that produce abundantly on long stems making them great for bouquets and posies.
These gorgeous flowers are a climbing variety with a high tolerance to heat.
Growing Conditions
Sweet peas grow best in a sunny location with cultivated, rich, moist, well drained soil. Pinch back the tops of sweet pea seedlings when they reach 20cm. Provide string or trellis support when vines are about 8-10cm tall. Harvesting cut flowers and regular dead heading will help prolong the flowering period.
We plant seed directly into the soil in Autumn for lush, fragrant pickings all spring and summer. They can also be planted in the spring for summer colour.
