Growing Conditions for Hollyhocks

Hollyhocks are a short-lived perrenial living for two to three years. Their lifespan can be extended by removing the flower stem once finished flowering.

They may need support against the house or a fence, and will especially need something to be tied onto in areas with high winds.  It prefers full sun but will be ok  in semi shade.

Plant seed into trays in Spring. Plant out into the garden at 60 cm spacings in Autumn for summer flowers.

If left to go to seed, you will get seedlings coming up readily in you garden. You can pot these up and plant them in other parts of your garden.
