Description
Quinoa
Chenopodium quinoa
Packet of 80 seeds. Ancient grain native to Peru. Great alternative to rice and for those with gluten-free diets. Protien rich. Easy to grow with a short harvest season.
Growing Quinoa
Sow quinoa in the spring into trays. Plant out into the garden after all chance of frost has passed. Plant quinoa at 20cm spacings. Grows to over 1m. As this is a short season crop (quick to harvest after planting) you can plant up to two consecutive crops in the warmer parts of NZ.
Harvest when seed heads are almost dry and leave on a sheet or upside down in a brown paper bag to collect the seed. Do not leave out on the plant in heavy rain as the seed will start spouting. Thresh the grain to remove it from the stalk. From 15 plants we harvested 750gm.
